Answer
·  What is a FlashPC?

Every FlashPC brand product is comprised of three key components:

Bootable Flash Memory Media

Preloaded with One or More Linux Operating Systems
Engineered to be Capable of Persistence

A variety of media form factors (USB drives, SD cards) are available to choose from as well as more than a dozen Linux operating system distributions or distros as they are called. Only distros that are capable of persistence are made available for preload on FlashPC products.

·  How Do I Boot a FlashPC?

Booting A FlashPC Is This Easy:

Plug In the FlashPC
Reboot or Power Up the Host PC
Modify the BIOS Boot Order

Once the BIOS is directed to boot the FlashPC instead of the Host PC's internal hard drive, Linux will boot up and you are ready to compute. Oh, wait a minute. You don't want to modify the BIOS? That's no problem.

Booting a FlashPC Is Even Easier With The Boot CD:

Insert the Boot CD
Plug In the FlashPC
Reboot or Power Up the Host PC

The Boot CD (included with every purchase) conveniently takes care of that BIOS modification process for you. Linux will boot up and you are ready to compute. Just don't forget to retrieve that handy Boot CD once Linux is up and running.

·  What Is Persistence?

Persistence Means:

Desktop Changes Can Be Saved
Application Changes Can Be Saved
New Files and Applications Can Be Saved

With persistence, changes can be saved so that the next time you boot your FlashPC, it will be just like it was the last time you shut it down.

Important Note: Persistence is limited to the unused space on the FlashPC.  Every distro page lists how much space is taken up by the OS so pick a FlashPC size that will allow you to take full advantage of all of the great Open Source applications and tools available for download.

·  What About Encryption?

With a FlashPC Product, You Can Encrypt:

Individual Files
Whole File Systems
Network/Internet Communications

From encrypted email attachments to virtual private networking, Linux has the tools to get it done. When your important information is safeguarded with encryption, that's just one less thing for you to worry about.

·  How Secure Is a FlashPC?

By Using a FlashPC, You Can Eliminate Concerns Over:

Common Physical Threats
Network/Internet Compromise
Malware Attacks

Protect your FlashPC by storing it on your person or in a firesafe. Secure what's on it with passwords and encryption. When it's running, use the enterprise-class Linux firewall. Best of all, skip the drama when the latest virus or worm hits because Linux is virtually immune to malware.

·  Which FlashPC Product Is Right For Me?

Try This Approach To Narrow Your Choices

1. Determine Your Budget. Select the largest FlashPC product available within your budget. The larger the FlashPC, the more persistence you will have.  The more persistence you have, the happier you will be in the long run.

2. Determine Your Intended Usage. Every distro includes a wide array of built-in applications. The distros that already include the applications that are of importance to you will allow more effective utilization of the remaining space available for persistence.

3. Determine Your Potential Hosts. If you are intending to boot your FlashPC on a wide range on Host PC models, consider a distro that is known for superior hardware detection capability.  If you are intending to boot your FlashPC on older machines, consider a distro that has low Host PC minimum requirements.

·  What Are My Upgrade Options?

If It Bears the FlashPC Brand, Upgrades Are Easy:

Switch To Another Distro or Upgrade What You Have
Order At Any Time, As Many Times As You Like
Expedited Processing For a Speedy Turnaround

Whether you want to try out different distros or get the latest and greatest version of your favorite, upgrading is a breeze. Simply order online, backup your data, and ship your FlashPC back to us. It will be returned to you freshly preloaded and ready to use!

·  How Do I Backup My Data?

Every Linux Distro Has Tools to Backup Your Data to:

CD/DVD Media
USB or Card Media
Host PC Drives

You'll want to save your data so that you can restore it after a FlashPC upgrade but anyone who uses a PC has to deal with that ever-present OOPS factor. Fearless computing can be yours by performing backups on a regular basis and storing them in a secure location.

·  How Do I Use Non-Linux Apps on a FlashPC?

Free Yourself From License Fees By Switching To As Many Linux Alternatives as You Can

But If You Must, You Can Use:

Remote Connectivity
Emulation

Virtualization

A remote desktop connection is the simplest and most cost-effective solution. However, given adequate space and resources, you can go for the gusto with an emulator or a virtual machine to run non-Linux apps directly from your FlashPC.
